Grand PrixView – Shanghai International Circuit, China

The 2010 season continues this weekend with the Chinese Grand Prix on the Shanghai International Circuit. After the first three races Jan-Moritz Kammann leads the Challenge championship with 52 points. The Sprint championship is led by Malcolm Rice, also with 52 points.

The Track

The Shanghai circuit is 5.451 km long and counts sixteen corners, 10 of them bend to the right. The Challenge drivers are expected  to complete a full race distance, which counts 56 laps. The sprint series need to complete halve of the laps, 28 to be exact. Qualifying starts at 18:45 GMT this Saturday for the Challenge series, whilst the race will be green at 19:30 GMT. The sprint series qualifying session will commence at 9:00 GMT this Sunday, the race starts at 9:45 GMT.

The best possible overtaking spot has to be turn 14. After the long right handed corner 13, a massive straight appears, approximately 1300 meters long, which is about 19 seconds, before the drivers have to brake very hard for an hairpin. Drivers also find the first corner challenging, but overtaking there is a lot more difficult as turn 14.

The Favourites

This time around GRIDline racing UK is the team to beat. Showing good speed in Sepang with Jack Nicholls and David Dominguez, the team is eager to grab the second win this season on the Chinese track. Also Tom Eley, a new contender for Nocturne e-Sports is in the mix for the win this time. The outsiders are the ones we see most of the time upfront. With all these fast drivers, the racewinner is hard to predict.

Also the racewin in the Sprint series isn’t given away yet. Three races into the season and three different winners already. Malcolm Rice took the  win in Australia, whilst van Brenk and new addition Stuart Fields grabbed the win in the other races. These drivers will be pushing very hard to repeat these wins in China.

The field is getting closer and closer to eachother each race, which is a great prospect for the next race!
