The Eagle soars as practice begins…

Christian Weibel solidly threw down the gauntlet to his rivals as the first free practice session got underway at the 7th round of the 2010 GPO championships at the Istanbul Speed Park in Turkey.

Weible set a 1:26.095 to go a clear 7 10ths of a second from his nearest competitor Jan-Moritz Kammann of Millenium racing.

Attendence was encouraging for the first GPO live broadcast practice session as drivers fought for the spotlight and the extra coverage their sponsors could get. 10 teams took to the track and gave the Istanbul fans something to cheer about.

The leading pair of drivers from the GPO challenge series stole the show but the field is highly competitive behind with the next 7 drivers all within a second of each other. An impressive feat given the track was filled by both Challenge and Sprint drivers with both divisions mixing it up. The sprint guys staying on pace with the challenge drivers and giving them cause to keep an eye on their mirrors.
