The Track

Yas Marina Circuit is 5.554 meters long and counts 21 corners. Twelve of them bend to the left. Drivers will drive this track anti-clockwise. It’s also called the Arabic Monaco.

The Abu Dhabi races ‘special’ treat is the time of day it will be held. The race will start at daylight, but it shall finish under artificial lights. The best overtaking opportunities this time will be turn 8 and 11. Special aspects of this track are the hotel, which was built over the track between turn 17 and 18 and the pit-exit which flows beneath the track.

Most Expensive

Yas Marina circuit is by far the most expensive track ever built for Formula races, roughly 1 milliard dollars. An entire Island had to be erupted from the sea. Also a hotel was built inside the racetrack. Also the lights around the track took a major part of the price, namely 250 million dollars.

The Schedule

Challenge will be brought live to you by Matthew Weston and Simon Smith. The broadcast will start at 18:45GMT, just in time for qualifying. The race will go green at 19:30GMT. The Sprint series will qualify at 9:00 GMT, with their race starting at 9:45 GMT.

Interlagos, Brazil is a track that always provides drama and entertainment from start to finish and for GrandPrix Online, 2010 will be no different as both Challenge and Sprint titles can be decided here.

For Challenge, Scott Wilde’s non attendance at Road America saw his main rival Muhammed Patel tear up the lead he had and now just seven points seperate the two rivals after Patel took victory in America. Wilde can still take the title should he win and Patel finishes lower than 6th. Drazen Cokor could still win in theory should both title leaders eliminate themselves from this race and he takes the victory in their place. For Sprint, Stuart Fields has a commanding lead over Malcolm Rice which ensures that should Fields finish higher than Rice, the title is his.

Interlagos’ Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace itself has been through various moderations but its current configuration has been in regular use since 1990 when the 27 turn circuit was shortened to a highly technical 15 turn bowl. Known for its gradient changes, interconnected infield section and the infamous Senna-S, it provides great overtaking opportunites both there and at turn 4 Descida de Lago. Set up compromises consist of getting around sector 3′s flat out kinks as quickly as possible whilst still being quick through the infields twists and a good balance is required to keep the flow as fluid as possible.

Off the beaten track we go to visit Road America for Round 17 of the GPO 2010 Season. Nick Oldenhuis gives us the lowdown…

Round 17 of the GPO season will be a “special event”, South Korea did not manage to complete their track in time for the GPO races, so the decision was made to change to America for this round. Scott Wilde still leads the Challenge championship by a margin of 32 points to Muhammed Patel. In sprint, Stuart Fields still is the man to beat with 244 points, but Michael Pieneman and Malcolm Rice will try to close the gap to him by all means neccesary. Nothing is yet decided in both championships, so we can expect fireworks in the remaining three races.

Road America has been a regular feature between 1982 and 2007 on the Champcar Calender, just missing out one race in 2005. Nowadays the track is used by multiple raceclasses, like the Atlantic Championship, American Le Mans Series and the SSCA Speed World Challenge Series.

Road America is a permanent road course and is located roughly between the cities of Milwaukee and Green Bay. It’s situated on 640 acres ( 2,6 square km ) in Wisconsins Kettle Morain. It has hosted events from September 1955 and hosts over 400 events a year.

The track is one of only a hand-full of road circuits in the world maintaining its original configuration being 6515 km in length and 14 turns. The track features many elevation changes, along with a long front stretch where speeds of 320 km/h could be reached. One of the best known features of this track is a turn on the farside known as “the kink”

The Challenge series will be hosted this Saturday. Qualifying starts at 18:45 GMT, the race will be 47 laps long. The event will be broadcasted on SimRaceTV with Simon Smith as your ears and Mathew Weston as your eyes.
The Sprint series take place on Sunday at 9:00 GMT, tasked with completing 24 laps on this track.

Only one week after the German Grand Prix, the next one is on the schedule. The Hungaroring, near Budapest, is the host of the Hungarian Grand Prix. Scott Wilde leads the Challenge series, with a marginal 2 points infront of Drazen Cokor. Stuart Fields is still on top of  Sprint Championship ladder, extending his lead over Malcolm Rice in Germany to  7 points.

The Track

The Hungaroring is 4.381 meters long, which makes it the third shortest track on the race calender this season. Only Monaco and Sao Paolo are shorter. The track features 15 corners, 9 of them bend to the right. The Challenge race will count 70 laps, whilst the Sprint race is 35 laps. The broadcast commences Saturday at 18:45 GMT and Sunday the broadcast will go live at 09:00 GMT.

Summerbreak

The Hungarian Grand Prix will be the last race before the summer break. 4 weeks after the race on the Hungaroring the next race is scheduled in Belgium. The teams will look forward to this break and take some well deserved time off. But before this break, all of them are looking forward to the races this weekend! The Track

Silverstones new lay-out made the track a little longer as it used to be, namely 5.901 meters long. This means the laps to be completed drop to 52 for Challenge and 26 for sprint. The track is on an old airfield. It is famous for it’s flowing corners like Maggots, Becketts and Chapel. The fast Bridge-corner has disappeared in the new lay out, drivers have to make a fast right turn in Abbey instead of left, leading to the brand new Arena part of the track, and return to the old track at Brooklands.

Silverstone after all

Last years GrandPrix on this track seemed the last Formula 1 race there. Donington Park should be the host of the 2010 Grand Prix onward. Donington couldn’t get the financial part of the deal closed, which led to a return on this amazing track. The next seventeen years, Silverstone hosts the Grand Prix of Great Britain. A lot of spectators are happy with this outcome

GrandPrix Online weekend

Qualifying for Challenge will commence at 18:45 GMT this Saturday, whilst the race will go green at 19:30 GMT.
For Sprint, qualifying starts at 9:00 GMT, whilst the race starts at 9:45 GMT this Sunday.

If there will be a broadcast is until now uncertain.

The Track

The Circuito Urbano de Valencia is 5.440 meters long and features a total of 25 corners. Thirteen of them bend to the right. Challenge drivers will be driving 57 laps, whilst the Sprint drivers have to complete a total of 29 laps around this difficult and demanding track.

The Circuito Urbano de Valencia is not famous for the spectacular races we saw in the past years. Perhaps the first visit of the Grand Prix Online paddock will change this. Only two corners have been marked as overtaking possibility, namely corner 12 and 17.

The Race

Challenge Qualify will start at  18:45 GMT, whilst the qualifying session for the sprint race will be the next Sunday at 9:00 GMT.

The Track

Istanbul Park is 5.538 metres long and counting 14 corners. Eight of them turn to the left. Challenge drivers have to complete 58 laps in this race, whilst the sprint drivers have to go round 29 times. Qualifying will commence this Saturday at 18:45 GMT for GP-O Challenge. GP-O Sprint drivers will qualify on Sunday at 9:00 GMT.

The Istanbul Park track is well know for one of the most challenging corners of this racing-year. Turn 8 is a long, fast corner with mulitple apexes along it’s length. This race will be tough for every driver, as it’s the first track on the calender which is counter-clockwise this year.
